Wooden Whales

Bowhead

Painted Bowhead and Right Whale

Weathervane Sperm Whales

Cutting out/carving whales has become the relaxation time. It is brainless work and carving them from reclaimed wood (old fence pickets and an old wooden desk) with the Dremel is instant gratification. These were inspired from all the different antique "Nantucket" style whale plaques and weathervanes that I have been obsessed with.

Redfish Tail Linocut

The weather outside is awful and it has forced me into the studio. The dogs joined me and while they wrestled and played around I finished up a linocut I had been wanting to work on.

Northshore Marine Shirt

About a week ago I was contacted by Northshore Marine down in Houston about using one of my drawings for a shirt. Of course I said yes (it didn't hurt that they were fellow Texans) as long as they sent Jen and I a shirt. Well it arrived yesterday and looks bad ass! Strong work Northshore Marine.

Sharpie Work

Haven't had much time to draw lately. Got some inspiring words and advice from Paul Puckett. Sharpies are unforgiving and once you realize that and just go for it, things tend to go much more smoothly. Thanks for the advice and I will put it to good use.
 Another Paul Puckett inspired "Tail."
A quick Tarpon sketch.

Backyard Projects

Whale weathervane that has been outside enjoying all the wind.

It is bluebird nesting time. The neighbor's bird house is already being scoped out by a pair of bluebirds. This house may have been put out a little late this year.

The finch are starting to hit the feeders so Jen and I built this thing out stuff that was sitting around the house. The house finch are all over the place but we haven't seen any gold finch yet.

With all the bird feeding going on we had to try the suet feeder. Tater believes that this is the best feeder and that it needs guarding anytime he is outside. The project for the week is to expand the corner beds. Going to try to smother the grass with cardboard and news paper and add a layer of soil and mulch over it.

A drawing I did for a benefit auction.
Below is the work in progress. I like the way it looks when it isn't quite complete.
