Spring Sand Bass Run

(Sand bass love to be sweet talked)

Jen put on a clinic the other day. We knew it was going to be a good day when the the first 2-3 casts resulted in fish. They were staging right where they were supposed to be. Each year when the buds appear on the trees it signals the arrival of the spring sandbass spawning run. It's not about numbers but when the sandies are running, the numbers add up quickly. Hopefully later this week I can do a little scouting on some of the other creeks in the area (after this cold front blows through) and repay a good friend with a close sand bass spot.

  1. I wish I could find a White Bass run here in AL. I miss the ones closer to home in north MS... not far from my hometown of Memphis, TN. Sorry we don't call them "sand bass" or "sandies" around here... I've gathered that is a TX and OK thing. It actually took me a while to figure out what y'all were talking about... but I know the fish very well... just by another name. They are a blast- especially on fly rod or ultralight.

  2. It still amazes me how they tug and fight.

    1. They are one tough fighting fish (especially for their size). Just a blast.

  4. Thanks. These seemed to have started their run a little early this year. The cold front we just had blow through moved most of them back down to the lake but hopefully after this cold front it will be full steam ahead for spring.
